Parole is the early release of an imprisoned individual who agrees to abide by certain conditions. Preparation for the parole board hearings is a stressful process, and denial rates are high. Even when individuals obtain parole, failure rates can be high. Recent data shows that one in five people are in jail because of parole or probation violations.
