Aging

Prisoners who are 55 and older are one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. prison population. According to Pew Charitable Trusts, the number of people 55 and older in state and federal prisons increased 280% between 1999 and 2016, accounting for 11% of the total prison population. These are their stories.
