I was not born
with skin dark;
Nor was I called,
that six letter word.
I was never told,
I was less,
nor ever kept apart.
Still I felt the pain
six letters caused;
Hate and vileness,
from spirits dark.
I feel ashamed
of those pale,
who are my own,
so ignorant.
The years have passed,
but little has changed.
Those unlike
still feel the pain.
