The PJP Membership program is a community of supporters dedicated to advancing transparency in the criminal legal system. Members help fund our mission to train incarcerated writers in the skills of journalism, enabling them to share their stories and advocate for change.

With your donation, you will receive:

  • “Unlocked” Newsletter: Our quarterly member-exclusive newsletter
  • PJP Annual Report: PJP’s report on the impact of our work
  • “PJP Inside” Newspaper: A digital copy of our quarterly training newspaper featuring stories from incarcerated writers
  • Event Access: Invitations to virtual events with PJP staff, writers and special guests

How much does it cost to become a member?

A contribution of any amount provides you with a membership for 365 days!


How do I become a member?

Can I change or cancel a recurring donation?

Yes, you can update or cancel your membership at any time through your contributor portal or by contacting us directly at memberships@prisonjournalismproject.org.


Is my donation tax-deductible?

PJP is an independent nonprofit organization as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions or gifts to Prison Journalism Project are tax-deductible (EIN 87-3805290).


Do you accept matching gifts?

Yes, many employers offer matching gift programs that can double the impact of your donation. Please contact your employer to see if they offer a matching gift program.


How does Prison Journalism Project use my donation?

Your donation supports the training of incarcerated writers and the publication of their stories, helping to bring greater transparency to the U.S. criminal legal system.


Can I opt out of receiving member benefits?

Our benefits are eco-friendly and paper-free — delivered digitally to help us protect the planet, one story at a time!
