Lifers
The Sentencing Project reports that one in seven people in prison are serving life sentences. They include those serving life without parole (LWOP), life with parole or virtual life sentences of more than 50 years. More than two-thirds of them are people of color. These are stories by writers who are lifers about what it’s like to be serving a sentence of life without parole.
