In a 2021 report, the Sentencing Project found that Black Americans are incarcerated at about 5 times the rate of their White counterparts and Latino Americans are incarcerated at 1.3 times the rate of White Americans. Much of prison life is also segregated by race. These are stories and reflections about race and identity inside and beyond prison.
