Recidivism
Recidivism occurs when a formerly incarcerated individual is rearrested, reconvicted or returns to prison with or without a new sentence after being released. According to the Harvard Political Review, the U.S. has one of the highest recidivism rates in the world with 76.6% of prisoners rearrested within five years of their release.
